"Printer offline" almost never means the printer is broken. It means the computer cannot find it at the address it remembers. Wireless printers are especially prone to this, because routers hand out addresses that can change after a power cut or router restart.
Fix the connection first, then — if it keeps happening — give the printer a stable address so it stops wandering.
Try these first — 30 seconds each
[ ]Turn the printer off and on, and check its screen for an error or a Wi-Fi symbol.

Restart in the right order
Turn off the printer, then restart the router, wait until the internet is back, turn the printer on and wait for it to rejoin Wi-Fi, then restart the computer. Order matters: the printer needs the router up before it can get an address.

Clear the queue
Windows: Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → your printer → Open print queue → cancel all. Mac: System Settings → Printers & Scanners → your printer → Printer Queue. A single stuck job can hold everything behind it and flip the status to offline.

Turn off "Use Printer Offline" (Windows)
In the print queue window, open the Printer menu and make sure "Use Printer Offline" is not ticked. Windows sometimes turns this on after a failed job.

Remove and re-add the printer
Remove the printer from your computer, then add it again so it discovers the printer's current address. On Windows use "Add device"; on Mac click the + button. Prefer the entry marked AirPrint or with the network name over an old duplicate.

Give it a fixed address
In your router's admin page, find the printer in the connected devices list and set an "address reservation" (also called DHCP reservation or static lease). This stops the address changing and ends the offline cycle for good.

Update or reinstall the driver
Download the current driver or app from the printer maker's official site — not a third-party download site. Many modern printers work with the built-in driver and need nothing extra.
Platform notes
Windows
The built-in printer troubleshooter (Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters) can automatically reset the print spooler.
Mac
Right-clicking in the Printers list and choosing "Reset printing system" clears every printer — use it as a last resort, then re-add yours.
Stop it happening again
Reserve an IP address for the printer in your router.
Keep the printer's firmware updated from its own settings menu.
Place it within good Wi-Fi range; weak signal causes dropouts.
When to get professional help
If the printer cannot join Wi-Fi at all, shows a hardware error code, or will not print a test page from its own menu, contact the manufacturer's support.
